Position: Safety & Security Monitor Department: Upper Moreland High School Reports to: Safety & Security Coordinator FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly) – Educational Support Professional Association Schedule: Full Time, 6.5 hours/day, 10 Months

SUMMARY: Safety & Security Monitors are responsible for the overall safety and security of the school. The security team plays a critical role in the school's culture and climate. A calm, structured, and positive learning environment is a top priority for the security team. Security personnel actively engage in supporting students, understanding their behavioral and emotional needs, in order for them to be successful in the classroom and school community.

The role of a Safety & Security Monitor is physically demanding as they are the first line of defense to defuse and de-escalate student misconduct and/or serious incidents and must respond urgently.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:(Other appropriate duties may be assigned.)

• Monitors assigned areas of district buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and criminal activity, including unauthorized entry onto district property using available technology, and regularly patrols assigned areas. Initiates appropriate action when a threat to the school environment exists.
• Secure designated instructional areas and commons areas within the school grounds.
• Engage students in conversations that promote practices of safety and adherence to established guidelines and rules in the school.
• Perform clerical duties assigned by administration.
• Guide observance and application of campus rules and regulations in relation to students.
• Assist administration with monitoring student areas and maintaining control of student behavior.
• Assist in reinforcing positive student behaviors, such as timeliness, responsibility, and cleanliness in a behavioral and trauma informed approach.
• Ensures all alarms are operational.
• Monitor entrances to school property and ensure visitors comply with procedures for entering and properly registering their presence. Approaches and questions individuals for proper permits and authorization for use of or presence on school property.
• Use of the visitor screening system, verifying student contacts, custody issues, secretarial and clerical duties, etc.
• Provides traffic or crowd control as assigned.
• Patrol and secure district buildings and grounds as directed, with attention to the prevention of fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
• Conduct walking patrol inspections of District buildings, including but not limited to doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
• Confront unauthorized persons for questioning, route, or detain them, and/or call the police for assistance based on emergency…
