Construction Superintendent

Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead field operations while also supporting office-based functions such as bids, estimates, and project tracking. You will oversee the full construction lifecycle-from initial land development through final acceptance of buildings-ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high quality and safety standards. The position requires a strong field presence combined with the ability to collaborate closely with project management and office staff.

Responsibilities

+ Plan, manage, coordinate, and supervise the construction process from initial land development through final acceptance of buildings, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

+ Originate and maintain detailed schedules for all trades with assistance from the Project Manager, and ensure contractors adhere to established timelines.

+ Communicate performance expectations clearly to contractors and hold them accountable for their work, linking performance directly to payment for services.

+ Inspect each trade's work regularly to verify quality and compliance with project specifications and approve invoicing according to contract payment terms.

+ Manage subordinate field staff, provide direction and support, and oversee daily activities to maintain productivity and efficiency.

+ Oversee the quality of construction work and ensure that all activities on the job site comply with safety standards and procedures.

+ Facilitate weekly subcontractor meetings to address planning, scheduling, quality control, and safety issues, and to coordinate upcoming work.

+ Read and interpret blueprints and construction documents for prospective, ongoing, and future projects to guide field execution.

+ Assist with office-based tasks, including preparing and reviewing bids, reports, logs, and other project documentation as needed.

+ Use construction management software, including Procore, to track project progress, document field activities, and support coordination between field and office teams.

Essential Skills

+ Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a Construction Superintendent and/or Construction Project Manager.

+ Proven experience managing construction projects in one or more sectors such as commercial, healthcare, school, institutional, federal, or municipal.

+ Strong ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise multiple trades and subcontractors throughout all phases of construction.

+ Demonstrated experience in reading and interpreting blueprints and construction documents.

+ Proficiency using Procore or similar construction management software for project tracking and documentation.

+ Hands-on field experience and comfort working on active construction sites while also supporting office-based tasks.

+ Experience overseeing earth work and concrete work on construction projects.

+ Ability to enforce schedules, quality standards, and contract payment terms with contractors and subcontractors.

+ Strong communication skills to lead meetings, provide clear direction, and maintain straightforward, professional interactions with project stakeholders.

+ Commitment to job site safety and experience implementing and monitoring safety practices on construction projects.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+

Experience with build-out projects and ground-up construction, even if not required, is considered a strong plus.

+ Background in healthcare, hospital, or medical facility construction is highly beneficial.

+ Experience working on institutional and municipal projects, such as schools or public buildings, is advantageous.

+ Ability to balance field responsibilities with administrative tasks such as bids, estimates, reports, and logs.

+ Strong organizational skills to manage documentation, schedules, and multiple concurrent tasks.

+ Ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, and field staff to drive project success.

Work Environment

This position is 100% on site in the North Chicago area, primarily supporting hospital projects. You will work in an active construction environment, regularly interacting with trades, subcontractors, and project management staff. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with core hours from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and there may be occasional Saturday work depending on project needs. The role is field-focused, requiring a consistent presence on job sites to oversee daily activities, quality, and safety, while also spending time in the office as needed to assist with bids, estimates, reports, and project tracking.

You will use technologies such as Procore and other construction management tools to coordinate work, monitor progress, and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Willowbrook, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.29 - $60.10/hr.
