Pharmacy Floor Technician

Job Description

The Pharmacy Floor Technician supports the safe, accurate, and efficient preparation of prescription medications under the supervision of a pharmacist. This role focuses on picking, labeling, scanning, and preparing finished prescriptions for final verification, while maintaining high standards of quality, compliance, and productivity in a fast-paced pharmacy fulfillment environment.

Responsibilities

+ Fill daily drug orders accurately and efficiently in a timely manner under the supervision of a pharmacist.

+ Pick medications from shelving, prepack racks, and other medication storage areas to fulfill prescription orders.

+ Apply labels to blister cards and scan products to ensure accuracy before final pharmacist verification.

+ Alert the pharmacist on duty immediately when any medication or product does not scan properly or appears incorrect.

+ Assist in processing returned drugs and recycle or dispose of them according to established procedures.

+ Prepack frequently ordered medications, label, and store them appropriately during low-volume times.

+ Package materials and products manually, following standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.

+ Maintain designated workstation areas in a clean and organized manner and replenish all stock supplies as needed.

+ Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA, to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.

+ Comply with departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.

+ Work overtime, holidays, and weekends as required or expected to meet business and patient care needs.

+ Perform other duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations and team objectives.

Essential Skills

+ Active Illinois Pharmacy Technician License issued by the Illinois Board of Pharmacy.

+ National Certified Pharmacy Technician credential (CPhT).

+ Minimum of 1 year of experience as a pharmacy technician.

+ High school diploma or GED.

+ Ability to stand for long periods of time while performing repetitive tasks.

+ Ability to lift up to 25 pounds safely and repeatedly as needed.

+ Ability to work at a moderate speed while handling high-volume prescription orders.

+ Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to follow instructions and document work accurately.

+ Strong computer and data entry skills to maintain accuracy in prescription processing and record keeping.

+ Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in medication selection, labeling, and scanning.

+ Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to pharmacy procedures and regulations.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience in pharmacy fulfillment or mail-order pharmacy settings.

+ Familiarity with pharmacy data entry systems and prescription processing software.

+ Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirements.

+ Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and maintain workstation readiness.

+ Reliability and strong attendance to support consistent pharmacy operations.

+ Ability to work collaboratively with pharmacists and other pharmacy staff in a team-oriented environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a pharmacy fulfillment facility in Burr Ridge, IL, within units C and

D. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with every other weekend shifts from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Training lasts for approximately three weeks and is conducted Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Extended hours may be necessary based on business needs and prescription volume, and overtime, holidays, and weekend work may be required.

The work environment is fast-paced and production-focused, requiring long periods of standing, frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds, and consistent manual handling of medications and packaging materials. Team members use computer systems and scanning equipment regularly to process prescriptions and verify accuracy. A shift differential is available for team members working shifts that start after 5:00 p.m. The facility operates under strict safety, attendance, and dress code policies and emphasizes regulatory compliance, including HIPAA, while maintaining a professional and collaborative atmosphere.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burr Ridge, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.84 - $23.00/hr.
