Whitman Advisory is currently hiring for a Tax Principal to play a key leadership role within a Small Business Advisory practice in Wilmington, Delaware.

This team works primarily with small businesses, providing hands‑on advisory, tax, and accounting support while serving as an integral part of each client’s financial team. The Tax Principal will contribute to the successful completion of client engagements, manage client relationships, support business development efforts, and help mentor and develop team members.

This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys building strong client relationships, working in a diverse client‑service environment, and providing strategic guidance to small business owners.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage client relationships while identifying new business opportunities that contribute to growth and development
  • Work with engagement teams to successfully service clients across multiple industries
  • Oversee the successful completion of client engagements, including tax compliance, research, correspondence, and planning
  • Develop a strong understanding of each client’s business and industry
  • Review and prepare clear, concise working papers
  • Analyze issues of diverse scope, including situations requiring evaluation of various factors and current business trends
  • Develop effective working relationships with internal teams and external clients
  • Assist with client development and retention, including identifying opportunities to cross‑sell services
  • Assist clients with special projects such as budgeting, cash flow projections, and tax planning
  • Deliver projects and engagements on time, within budget, and to the client’s satisfactionion>
  • Lead, train, and mentor staff, including providing oversight on client engagements and delivering evaluative feedback
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
  • CPA or EA certification required
  • Minimum of seven years of recent, relevant CPA firm experience
  • Proven ability to mentor, lead, and develop team members
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain business relationships to support client growth
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams and Outlook
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed
