OVERVIEWCab Calloway School of the Arts is seeking a highly qualified Piano and Music Education Instructor who has experience as a teacher and collaborative artist. This role is designed for an educator who can teach piano at an advanced, conservatory‑aligned level while also cultivating students as collaborators, entrepreneurs, and creative professionals.
The ideal candidate will prepare students to perform across artistic disciplines, working in partnership with Strings, Dance, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts while also developing pathways for students to engage in the creative economy through fee‑for‑service performances, professional etiquette, and real‑world music applications.
In addition, this instructor will create an inclusive learning environment for non‑declared majors and beginning musicians, offering a welcoming entry point for students who appreciate music and are developing foundational skills.
Candidates will be required to read music and perform on the piano during the interview.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Deliver rigorous, performance‑based piano instruction to students in grades 6–12 across multiple skill levels, from beginner to advanced.
- Model advanced technique, sight‑reading, stylistic interpretation, ensemble playing, and professional rehearsal practices.
- Select and sequence diverse, culturally responsive repertoire that supports technical growth, artistry, and collaborative performance.
- Partner with faculty and students in:
- Strings (chamber music, accompaniment, ensemble work)
- Dance (class accompaniment, choreography support, live performance)
- Vocal Music (accompanying choirs, soloists, recitals)
- Instrumental Music (jazz, band, orchestra, chamber ensembles)
- Support school‑wide concerts, showcases, productions, and community performances.
- Prepare students to participate in the creative economy, including:
- Establishing a fee‑for‑service model
- Contracting and client communication
- Event performance etiquette
- Professional branding and reliability
- Facilitate student opportunities to perform at community, district, and partner events outside the school.
- Build a welcoming, structured learning space for non‑declared majors and beginners who are exploring piano and music for the first time.
- Schedule, coordinate, and supervise recitals, concerts, juries, and collaborative performances throughout the school year.
- Maintain instructional platforms (Schoology), communication with families, and accurate grade books.
- Collaborate with the Cab Calloway School Fund Piano Boosters Club.
- Communicate regularly with building administration and program leaders.
- Coordinate field trips, master classes, and performance experiences.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Cab Calloway's arts mission.
- Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance, Applied Music, Music Education, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Demonstrated high‑level piano proficiency and musicianship.
- Experience teaching piano and/or music in school, studio, or community‑based settings.
- Knowledge of classical, contemporary, jazz, and collaborative repertoire.
- Delaware Advanced, Continuing, or Initial License
- Or an Out‑of‑State Teaching License eligible for reciprocity
