Amtrak is looking for a Public Safety Telecommunicator for the Amtrak Police Department nationwide. The role handles emergency and non-emergency calls, supports radio communications, and works with the company’s computer-aided dispatch systems.
Summary Of DutiesActs as a public safety telecommunicator handling emergency and non-emergency calls for the Amtrak Police Department and providing customer service.
Essential Functions- Receives calls for assistance and dispatches appropriate services.
- Operates the Police Department's computer-aided dispatch system, alarm system, and voice-over-IP radio system.
- Operates the Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and other related computer systems in the Communications Center.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Reading map skills.
- Operating communication equipment.
- Receiving, prioritizing, and dispatching emergency calls.
- Performing multiple tasks in a high-stress, high-security dispatch center.
- Successfully completing all mandatory training.
- Passing a thorough background investigation.
- Typing a minimum of 35 WPM.
- Thinking clearly during crisis situations.
- Multi-tasking in a complex, high-pressured environment.
- Working up to 16 hours in a high-pressured environment.
- Working all shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and inclement weather; communications officers are required to report regardless of weather.
- Desire to work in public safety and transportation during critical situations.
- Carrying out day-to-day operations per written directives and policies.
- Acquiring and maintaining job-related certifications such as APCO, Public Safety Telecommunicator, and CLEAN or applicable systems.
- Maintaining a good attitude and teamwork ability.
- Working rotating shifts in a 24-hour, 7-day operation with irregular hours, mandatory overtime, and required reporting regardless of weather.
- Previous experience and training as a public safety telecommunicator or completion of a 40-hour telecommunicator training course.
- Computer-aided dispatch experience and basic computer operations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Hourly pay ranges from $27.43 to $30.44 with opportunities for increases under the collective bargaining agreement.
