Definition
To provide classroom and laboratory instruction and clinical oversight to students and assist in program development.
QualificationsThe qualifications of the radiography instructor are consistent with the Standards for an Accredited Educational Program in the Radiologic Sciences. The full‑time didactic faculty shall:
- Hold at a minimum a bachelor’s degree.
- Be qualified to teach the subject.
- Be proficient in course development, instruction, evaluation, and academic advising.
- Document two years’ clinical experience in MRI.
- Hold current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification and registration in radiography and magnetic resonance imaging.
Receives general supervision from the Radiography Program Director. Exercises no right supervision.
Essential Functions- Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students.
- Develop course curriculum.
- Collaborate with the program director to secure clinical sites and oversee clinical affiliation agreements.
- Create clinical schedules and student assignments to meet required hours.
- Collaborate with Clinical Onboarding Navigator to oversee clinical clearance of students for all clinical affiliates.
- Develop class outlines and establish guidelines for various courses; prepare lesson plans and supplemental teaching materials; schedule classroom activities and select appropriate texts.
- Encourage a variety of teaching strategies to foster critical thinking and clinical applications.
- Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student academic and clinical performance; grade and record individual scores.
- Review available instructional materials; estimate time, materials, and equipment required for various assignments; submit requests for materials, supplies and equipment to program director.
- Supervise the use of and operation of various instructional equipment; provide instructional demonstrations on mechanical machinery or other equipment as appropriate; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands‑on experience as appropriate.
- Participate in systematic program evaluation.
- Participate in curriculum development, evaluation and change; ensure that the curriculum contributes to the development of skills, knowledge and abilities, which prepare students to enter into the profession.
- Act as an advisor and counselor to students; provide individual tutoring to students outside of the classroom as needed.
- Attend faculty and advisory committee meetings as required.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and databases according to program needs.
- Stay abreast of new developments and changes in various assigned academic fields and clinical setting; participate in professional development programs, observation at clinical sites, workshops, seminars and other continuing education programs as appropriate.
- Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area.
- Participate in student recruitment efforts.
- Ensure adherence to safe and appropriate work practices and procedures.
- Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lesson format; evaluate various textbooks and select books to be used for future classes.
- Assist other program instructors in teaching and lab experiences.
- Travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
