DEFINITION
Provide current and potential students with information regarding education options, career pathways, and local and regional employability opportunities. Provide advising and career counseling to Academic & Career Readiness (ACR) students who enter ACR programs and then transition into postsecondary education and training at CFCC, assist undecided students with academic and career goal setting. Administer and evaluate career assessments, help students with program selection, and assist with the CFCC and financial aid application processes.
Collaborate with Career Services on workshops and events. Stay informed on local employment trends and community resources to facilitate student career placement, and participate in recruitment and promotion activities for the institution.
- Receives primary supervision from the Career Readiness Coordinator.
- May exercise limited functional and technical supervision over work-study student assistants.
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions- Provide ongoing advising to ACR students and assistance with resume writing and other employability skills in the ACR resume lab.
- Provide career counseling for students who are undecided on their programs of study and assist them in setting academic and career goals. Administer career assessments and provide career exploration information to help students make career choices and prepare for their specific career.
- Visit classes on and off campus and program orientations to share information regarding admissions, program offerings, financial aid, major selection and other aspects of the transition process.
- Assist ACR students with college enrollment and the application process for financial aid.
- Assist students with class registration in CFCC Curriculum, CTE and Continuing Education/EWD classes.
- Work closely with Admissions staff, Testing Services, and Financial Aid advisors to make sure students complete, meet and exceed all admissions and placement requirements.
- Refer students to resource materials to obtain information about colleges that are consistent with career goals.
- Maintain transition advising records and document student outcomes.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from students, faculty, staff and local and state agencies; provide detailed information and give directions.
- Maintain sound knowledge of the college’s financial aid process, degree auditing and placement testing procedures and deadlines.
- Generate ideas for and participate in recruitment and publicity activities.
- Coordinate graduation exercises with college staff and oversee ACR department graduation preparations; provide graduation information to prospective graduates from our department.
- Develop, plan, execute and evaluate career exploration activities, workshops, and programs for ACR students.
- Collaborate with other department staff to increase student retention and transition to postsecondary education and training.
- Collaborate with Career Services on workshops and events and promote these events to ACR students.
- Assist program coordinators with training instructors on transition opportunities, and incorporating job training and soft skills in the classroom.
- Maintain information regarding local and regional hiring events and maintain current knowledge of employment trends and business expansions in local industries.
- Assist with CFCC open house and job fair events.
- Assist faculty, administrative staff, and students with various support tasks including accessing computerized information.
- Assist with student registration processes, in person, on Fund Five, and on Web Advisor.
- Maintain current knowledge of Curriculum and Continuing Education processes and procedures as well as general college policies and procedures.
- Maintain department’s program information, handouts, schedules, and catalog.
- Maintain department’s webpage and social networking sites.
