Middle School Social Studies Teacher (26-27 SHIFT Y) – Job
LOCATIONNew Castle, DE 19720 – Charter School of New Castle (High-Needs School)
OVERVIEWFounded in 2006, Charter School of New Castle is split between two buildings: a K-4 Elementary School and a 5-8 Middle School on Lukens Drive in New Castle, serving approximately 800 students. The school focuses on family‑centered collaboration and community engagement, aiming to provide a well‑rounded, intellectually stimulating education.
POSITION GOALTeachers at Charter School of New Castle design, develop, and implement academic lessons, work with colleagues to assess and improve student learning, and mentor students to academic success. They own responsibility for planning, instruction, assessment, and communication.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year institution. Must be eligible for State of Delaware teacher certification in grade or content area.
- Experience:
- At least one year of teaching experience (preferred two years).
- Proven record of elevating student achievement in an urban classroom.
- Current criminal, child‑abuse, and FBI clearance.
- Hold high expectations for each student.
- Demonstrate strong subject‑area knowledge.
- Build positive rapport with students.
- Create and foster a positive learning environment.
- Maintain strong communication lines with all parents.
- Attend weekly department meetings.
- Perform clerical duties related to textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports, records, and attendance.
- Driven to improve minds and lives of students from underserved communities.
- Dedicated to ensuring all students achieve academic success.
- Passionate about learning; insists on academic excellence and rigor.
- Self‑aware and respectful toward all community members.
- Reflective, able to appraise strengths and weaknesses.

Length of Work Year: 10 months. Occasional evening and weekend commitments and travel throughout the state and region may be required.
SALARY AND BENEFITSSalary is based on the pay scale with qualifications and experience. Performance bonuses tied to exemplary student achievement are available. State benefit package includes medical, dental, flexible spending, and pension plans.
