Position Summary
The International Student Liaison & Community Coordinator plays a vital role in enhancing the well‑being, engagement, and integration of international students at Wilmington College. This position is responsible for developing and managing programs that foster a sense of belonging, provide meaningful support, and connect international students with the campus and local Wilmington community. A secondary function includes providing administrative support to the international admissions process under the close guidance of the Director.
The ideal candidate has a passion for cross‑cultural community building, student success, and the mission of the college.
Key Responsibilities
A. Student Support & Community Integration (Primary Focus)
- Serve as the primary non‑academic point of contact for enrolled international students, providing guidance and referral to campus resources.
- Develop, launch, and manage the International Host Family Program, including recruiting, screening, and training local community members, and matching them with students.
- Plan and execute comprehensive orientation and ongoing cultural transition programs for new and returning international students.
- Organize regular cultural, social, and educational events to promote community building and cross‑cultural exchange.
- Create and disseminate digital and print resources (welcome guides, monthly newsletters, community event calendars) to support student adjustment.
B. Admissions & Recruitment Support (Under Supervision)
- Assist the Director with the initial stages of the international application process, including document collection and initial communication with applicants.
- Help maintain accurate applicant records within the office's management system.
- Contribute to the creation of engaging student testimonials and promotional content for recruitment purposes, utilizing digital media skills.
- Represent the Office of International Affairs at select on‑campus recruitment and yield events.
C. Digital Communications & Social Media Management
- Develop and manage the social media strategy and presence for the Office of International Affairs across relevant platforms (Instagram, Facebook, snapchat).
- Create and schedule regular, engaging content—including photos, videos, student spotlights, event promotions, and informational posts—that highlight the international student experience and supports office initiatives.
- Monitor engagement, respond to messages, and analyze metrics to refine digital outreach effectiveness.
D. Campus & Community Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with key campus partners, including Student Life, Campus Ministry, Residence Life, and Academic Departments, to ensure a coordinated support network.
- Build and maintain relationships with local community organizations, businesses, and faith groups to develop opportunities for student engagement and support.
- Serve as an advocate for international student needs in relevant campus meetings.
Qualifications
Required
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in program planning, event coordination, or community outreach.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- High degree of cultural sensitivity and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.
- Commitment to the mission and culture of Wilmington College.
Preferred
- Degree or significant coursework in Communication Arts, Digital Media, International Studies, or a related field.
- Personal experience living, studying, or working in an intercultural environment.
- Skills in digital content creation (Adobe Suite, Final Cut, social media management).
- Basic understanding of F‑1 student regulations (training will be provided).
