Summary:
The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs provides leadership and oversight of the student conduct process, emphasizing education, equity, and student success. This role supports a diverse student body-often including adult learners, part-time students, and first-generation students-by ensuring conduct processes are fair, accessible, and aligned with the community college mission.
Year One Critical Success Factors:
* Oversee the student conduct process for alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct, with an emphasis on education and behavior change.
* Review incident reports (e.g., classroom disruptions, academic dishonesty, behavioral concerns) and determine appropriate sanctions.
* Adjudicate cases using Maxient while ensuring due process while minimizing unnecessary barriers for students balancing work, family, and school.
Travel Requirements:
Limited local travel on occasion. Must have ready access to transportation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Manage the student conduct process from intake through resolution, including sanctions and follow-up. Use a case management approach that connects students to support services (advising, counseling, basic needs resources). Promote accountability while supporting student persistence and retention.
* Maintain accurate, confidential records in compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
* Develop workshops or interventions on topics such as academic integrity, conflict resolution, and classroom behavior.
* Review and update Care Team response manual and conduct policies to ensure clarity, accessibility, and alignment with the college mission and values.
* Work closely with academic affairs, campus safety, disability services, and advising. Serve as a resource for faculty and staff managing behavioral concerns.
* Coordinate the CARE team bi-weekly meetings.
* Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services aimed at enhancing student engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
* Maintain the student reporting software (Maxient) to monitor behavioral and disciplinary referrals.
* Provide training for faculty, staff, and students on the use and purpose of the Care Team and the student reporting system.
* Collaborate with Campus Safety and Security in managing student conduct issues. Attend regular meetings with campus security staff.
* Supervise the Director of Student Life. Oversee the assessment of programs and events to determine programming needs of students. Make recommendations for program improvements including student utilization of activities.
* Oversee the development of a student leadership program that enhances the co-curricular experience of student clubs and organizations.
* Approve administrative contracts and payroll for club advisors. Review club advisor end of semester reports.
* Provide oversight of the Food Pantry. Hire and train staff that can provide case management to students. Oversee community partnerships with food supplies and other agencies that can provide support to students. Explore new partnerships that can provide necessary support to students. Supervise all food pantry staff.
* Ensure that the College is in compliance with HEOA which includes updating the Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and other policies that fall under the Student Affairs area.
* Assist the Dean in planning, coordinating, and overseeing of the annual commencement ceremony and the working groups that support the event.
* Serve on the College's Institutional Planning Committee, Emergency Response Team, and the Campus Life Committee.
