Summary StatementInterpreters are responsible for interacting with the public, programming and social media support, research, and daily museum operations. This position will participate in interpretive and educational programming related to individuals, groups, and schools and assist in the development of Cooch's Bridge as it transitions from private ownership to public site.
Essential Functions- Conduct thematic tours, lectures, seminars and consultations of museums and historic sites, assess visitor level of knowledge and interests, and tailor subject matter to the audience.
- Assist with development and implementation of programmatic activities by conducting research, proposing ideas, serving as mentors for seasonal staff, brainstorming research projects, exhibit and interpretive programs and designing marketing special public events.
- Perform support functions such as surveillance of visitors/buildings for security, scheduling tours, collecting revenues, and preparing visitation, sales, donations, inventory records.
- Maintain operations during absence of Site Supervisor.
- Attend training sessions, workshops, conferences and seminars.
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Six months experience in record keeping.
- Knowledge of museum practices such as collection management, research, exhibit design, management and handling of collections, preservation or maintenance of historic buildings, conducting museum educational programs or tours.
- Knowledge of public relations, media relations or communications such as establishing and promoting a positive image with the public and informing or influencing specific audiences using internal and external communications such as public forums, journalism, writing, marketing, advertising, promotions, or special events.
This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non‑pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
Conditions of HireApplicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The State of Delaware Executive Branch participates in the Federal E‑Verify system where the State will provide the federal government with each new hire’s Form I‑9 information to confirm authorization. All new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment, held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.
