POSITION GOAL:
The Middle School Graphic Art Teacher will design and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction that develops students' artistic skills, creativity, and visual communication through traditional and digital media. The teacher will provide sequential learning experiences in areas such as the elements and principles of design, drawing, typography, digital illustration, photography, and graphic design processes while fostering an appreciation for diverse artistic styles and cultural influences.

The teacher will create a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment that encourages creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and self-expression. Through ongoing formative and summative assessments, the teacher will monitor student progress, provide targeted feedback, and differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners. In addition, the teacher will provide opportunities for students to apply artistic concepts through authentic projects, presentations, and exhibitions that showcase student achievement and promote connections between visual arts, technology, and real-world applications.

The Middle School Graphic Art Teacher will collaborate with colleagues, communicate effectively with families, and engage in continuous professional learning to strengthen instructional practices and support the development of lifelong learners and creative thinkers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:

  • Must be eligible or hold valid State of Delaware certification as an Art Teacher K-12 or Technology Teacher K-12.
  • Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Protection Registry in the State of Delaware.
  • Successful completion of required Praxis II tests and student teaching placement.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Master's degree preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, administration and the general public.
  • Show evidence of knowledge regarding evidence and research-based strategies known to be effective in promoting student learning and achievement for students.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic groups.
  • Proficient in Technology, such as Microsoft and Google Applications, Classlink, Schoology, Infinite Campus, etc.
  • Demonstrates understanding and ability to perform job related tasks.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Must be able to teach/serve students remotely and in person depending on the needs of their students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and deliver instruction aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) using district-approved curriculum.
  • Differentiate instruction using various teaching strategies and methodologies to address diverse learning styles with particular attention to academic scaffolding in Graphic Design at various student's level of functioning and preferred learning modalities.
  • Implement and monitor evidence-based behavioral and social-emotional interventions, maintain a structured classroom management system, and follow district expectations for Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
