Position: Teacher - Middle School English (Special Education Preferred)

Middle School English Teacher

The goal of the Middle School English Teacher is to provide high-quality instruction that enables students to make meaningful academic, social, and emotional progress. This position aims to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment where diverse learners can develop the skills needed for academic success and increased independence while fostering positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

The teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering instruction based on the approved curriculum and Common Core State Standards to help students move towards academic proficiency.

Minimum requirements include eligibility or holding a valid State of Delaware certification as a Middle School (or Secondary) English Teacher, a successful completion of required Praxis II tests and student teaching placement, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, and a Master's degree preferred. The candidate must also demonstrate knowledge of evidence and research-based strategies known to be effective in promoting student learning and achievement for students.

Essential duties and responsibilities include designing and delivering instruction aligned with the Common Core State Standards, differentiating instruction using various teaching strategies and methodologies to address diverse learning styles, implementing and monitoring evidence-based behavioral and social-emotional interventions, regularly administering, collecting, and interpreting formal and informal assessment data, developing and delivering weekly lesson plans, communicating regularly with families regarding student progress, complying with all Federal, State, and Local regulations and policies, attending professional development programs, and performing other duties as assigned.

The physical demands of this job include using hands and/or fingers to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking or hearing, and tasting or smelling. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and has specific vision abilities required by this job.

Pre-employment requirements include a criminal background check, TB test results, a copy of the Social Security Card, and a Child Protective Registry check.
