About The Team

For this part time Athletic Director position, you’ll be working for our high school in Wilmington, Delaware called Freire Charter School Wilmington (8th-12th Grade):
Freire is all about Graduation x 2 – graduation from high school and from college. We challenge our students to achieve higher than they ever have before, and we give them the support they need to get there, including individualized college counseling. 95% of The Class of 2025 received acceptances into 52 unique colleges and universities and earned nearly $4.3M in scholarship award offers.

What You’ll Do

As the Athletic Director, you ll develop and execute a comprehensive athletic program that aligns with the school s mission and values, fostering a positive and inclusive environment for student-athletes. You ll implement strategies that support student behavior and sportsmanship, promote social-emotional growth through athletics, and build a strong sense of belonging, teamwork, and respect across all teams and the broader school community.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage all logistics related to practices, games, and tournaments, including transportation and facility usage.
  • Collaborate with school administration, teachers, and parents to ensure that student-athletes maintain academic success while participating in sports.
  • Implement and enforce policies and procedures related to athletic eligibility, behavior, and safety.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and the broader community to enhance support for the athletic program.
  • Oversee budgetary considerations for the athletic department and make fiscally responsible decisions.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among student-athletes, coaches, and spectators.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor s degree
  • Previous experience in athletic administration, coaching, or related roles.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire coaches and student-athletes.
