Electrical Engineering
Overview
As an Electrical Engineer 1 in our Nuclear Power Group, you will design and modernize critical electrical systems and large power components for existing nuclear plants, first-of-a-kind restart projects, small modular reactors (SMRs), and advanced reactor facilities. You will support plant life-extension and digital upgrade initiatives to help nuclear energy be safer, more efficient, and more reliable for the communities we serve.
You will work alongside a project team, receiving daily technical supervision and support from experienced engineers and subject matter experts in nuclear power generation and electrical power systems design. You will benefit from hands-on learning, technical training, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, leveraging our technical processes, industry standards, internally developed guidance, and our performance improvement database to deliver safe and reliable solutions.
Under the direction of senior engineers, this role offers opportunities to apply and expand your electrical engineering education in areas including protection and coordination studies, cable sizing, medium and low voltage system design, DC battery sizing, and analyses supporting safety-related electrical designs.
You will gain exposure to station-specific procedures and real-world project requirements, with opportunities to interface with client stakeholders such as Operations and Systems Engineering representatives.
You will collaborate with designers and drafters to translate concepts into detailed drawings, supporting project deliverables and bringing designs to life.
Professional development includes working within fixed project schedules and budgets, developing time management and collaboration skills to deliver high-quality engineering solutions on time and within scope, and pursuing pathways to professional licensure (PE) with mentorship and career development exposure.
Additional experiences include onsite access to nuclear power generating stations for walkdowns, witnessing installation and testing activities, supporting outages, and participating in the implementation of major projects you helped design. You will review station-specific drawings, calculations, and procedures to build expertise in design and licensing for a specific facility, and obtain qualifications to work as a preparer for unique engineering deliverables with potential to sign off on critical project documentation.
