Chemours is seeking a Pilot Operations Safety Leader to join our growing team. This position will report directly to the Safety and Security Manager at our Newark, DE location. We are looking for a passionate and experienced safety professional to elevate our safety performance in high-hazard pilot environments. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of driving safety improvements, strong networks within R&D settings, and the ability to translate technical knowledge into impactful safety programs and initiatives.

This role will engage with all levels of the organization—from site leadership to lab personnel—and will be instrumental in embedding safety as a core value across our pilot operations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Lab Process Safety Management program for Pilot Operations across CDH, ESL, and Elkton Tenzing, including hazard risk assessments, SOP reviews, and pre-startup safety checks.
  • Design, implement, and manage training programs for Pilot Operations personnel, including onboarding, monthly safety meetings, training on Chemours Life Saving Rules (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, Line Break), and computer-based modules via Vector.
  • Identify critical equipment and establish maintenance plans.
  • Conduct incident investigations using ABS Group Root Cause Analysis methodology.
  • Oversee contractor safety through audits and field engagement.
  • Collaborate with R&D teams to ensure safe work practices, appropriate PPE usage, and occupational hygiene controls.
  • Review, revise, and develop safety procedures to support continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.
  • Analyze safety performance data, identify trends, and recommend improvements to drive injury prevention and operational excellence.
  • Coach research personnel on psychological safety strategies and support leadership development across Pilot Operations teams.
  • Support site-wide programs including medical surveillance (respiratory protection, hearing conservation) and radiation safety through audits and program reviews.
  • Participate in corporate-wide safety networks to share best practices, leverage learnings, and stay informed on regulatory changes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering, or related field or 5+ years of experience in Pilot, Semi-Works, or High Hazard Operations.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory hazard risk assessments and a history of implementing safety improvements.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership skills (specifically in influence leadership).
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Ability to foster productive, collaborative relationships at all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet commitments, troubleshoot and problem solve.
  • Ability to influence through written and oral communications.
Preferred
  • Experience working with toxic materials.
  • Experience leading process hazard reviews.
  • Experience leading incident investigations.
