Compensation: $35-$41/HR
Responsibilities- Independently conduct organic reactions at pilot and laboratory scales, including reaction system assembly, monitoring, product work-up, analysis, characterization, and experimental documentation using an electronic laboratory notebook system.
- Independently manufacture parts from resins, including mixing, milling, pressing, and sintering, along with monitoring, analysis, characterization, and electronic documentation.
- Analyze experimental results, identify erroneous or unexpected outcomes, and recommend paths forward.
- Characterize material structure and performance using spectroscopic techniques, including NMR and IR.
- Learn and utilize polymer characterization instrumentation such as DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, impact testing, and tensile testing.
- Properly document, report, and present experimental data and findings at team meetings.
- Use Windows-based computer systems effectively.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and calibrate instruments; author and maintain instrument manuals and SOPs.
- Follow all safety policies and best practices and support process safety management (PSM) by maintaining pilot and laboratory safety documentation.
- Order and purchase supplies as needed and maintain chemical, resin, and experimental sample inventories.
- Coordinate external laboratory testing, including proper sample shipment in compliance with DOT regulations.
- Transfer flammable materials and powders (drum quantities) and perform limited lifting of laboratory equipment such as reactors and glassware.
- Prior experience with pilot-scale polymerization and handling drum-quantity flammable materials is highly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of or hands-on experience with polymer characterization instrumentation is preferred.
- Experience with mechanical testing equipment is preferred.
- Ability to learn a wide variety of testing methods and instruments.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to prioritize, organize, and plan responsibilities effectively.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
