Compensation: $36-$38/HR
Responsibilities:
- Independently prepare parts from resins, including mixing, milling, pressing, and sintering. Perform product work-up, analysis, characterization, and experimental documentation using an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN).
- Conduct organic reactions as needed, including reaction system assembly, monitoring, product work-up, analysis, characterization, and documentation in an ELN.
- Analyze experimental results, identify erroneous or unexpected outcomes, and recommend appropriate next steps.
- Characterize material structure and performance using various spectroscopic techniques, including NMR and IR.
- Develop proficiency with polymer characterization and materials testing instrumentation, including DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, impact, and tensile testing.
- Properly document and report experimental data and present findings and results at team meetings.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments and assist with authoring instrument manuals and SOPs.
- Follow all site safety policies and best practices, including maintaining laboratory safety documentation and supporting Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
- Order and purchase laboratory supplies as needed and maintain chemical, resin, and experimental sample inventories.
- Coordinate outside laboratory testing, including preparing and shipping samples in accordance with applicable DOT regulations.
- Use Windows-based computer systems and laboratory software to support daily activities.
- Perform limited lifting of laboratory equipment, reactors, glassware, and other materials as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of or hands-on experience with polymer characterization instrumentation preferred.
- Ability to learn and apply a wide variety of laboratory testing methods and instrumentation.
- Experience with mechanical testing equipment preferred.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, organize, and plan responsibilities.
