Experienced Audit Senior, State & Local Government

JOB DESCRIPTION

The State and Local Government (SLG) Experienced Audit Senior will be responsible for coordinating the day‑to‑day "in‑charge" duties of planning, fieldwork, and wrap‑up to include preparing financial statements with disclosures, applying GAAP as necessary, and documenting, validating, testing, and assessing various control systems. This position also acts as the client contact for basic questions and may be involved in reviews and agreed‑upon procedure engagements.

The SLG Experienced Audit Senior leads audit engagements, coordinating planning, fieldwork, and wrap‑up, preparing financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and public‑sector standards, and serving as the primary client contact.

• Applies knowledge of the collective effect of various factors on establishing or enhancing control effectiveness or mitigating risks.
• Works with the engagement manager for the day‑to‑day conduct of the audit work, ensuring field work is executed and completed as planned and within the firm’s policies, procedures, and budget.
• Applies knowledge of transactional flow and key transactional cycles to complete audit work.
• Documents, validates, and assesses the effectiveness of internal control systems.
• Determines and communicates improvements to client internal controls and accounting procedures.
• Supervises audit staff; reviews work papers and conclusions, explaining any shortcomings.

• Applies understanding of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles to client transactions, documenting and communicating compliance.
• Communicates GASB financial statement disclosure requirements to clients.
• Reviews Basic Financial Statements for State and Local Governments, including MD&A, notes, and mandatory supplementary information.
• Identifies and applies new GASB pronouncements to client situations.
• Analyzes and discusses alternative GASB accounting principles with managerial staff as needed.
• Escalates complex accounting issues to superiors for resolution.
