The Director of Finance serves as The Grand’s senior financial leader and trusted business partner to the Executive Director, department directors, Treasurer, Finance Committee and Board of Directors. This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring the ability to think strategically while remaining actively engaged in the organization’s day‑to‑day financial operations. The Director is responsible for financial strategy, accounting operations, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial reporting, grant compliance, risk management and financial systems.
The Director of Finance supports informed decision‑making, maintains strong financial controls and promotes the long‑term financial sustainability of the organization. The Director supervises the Finance Department and collaborates closely with Human Resources and all other departments throughout The Grand.
Key Responsibilities /Job Duties Financial Leadership and Strategy- Serves as the primary financial advisor to the Executive Director, organizational leadership, Treasurer, Finance Committee and Board of Directors
- Evaluates the financial implications of organizational decisions, programs, contracts, staffing, capital investments and strategic initiatives
- Identifies significant financial risks and opportunities and recommends appropriate actions
- Leads development of the annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with department directors
- Establishes budget assumptions, timelines and departmental guidance and consolidates submissions into the organizational budget
- Develops financial forecasts, rolling cash flow projections, scenario analyses and long‑range financial plans
- Monitors actual performance against budget and forecast and communicates significant variances
- Recommends corrective actions, cost‑saving measures and revenue strategies to support organizational goals
- Develops financial projections for performances, programs, fundraising initiatives, capital projects, and other strategic priorities
- Oversees day‑to‑day accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, reconciliations and financial close
- Ensures timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
- Maintains oversight of fixed assets, depreciation, restricted net assets, revenue recognition and other accounting schedules
- Develops and maintains effective financial policies, procedures and internal controls
- Ensures accounting records and practices comply with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable nonprofit accounting standards
- Provides backup support for Finance Department functions as needed
- Manages organizational cash flow, liquidity and working capital
- Oversees banking relationships, cash transfers, authorized account access and organizational cash controls
- Manages lines of credit, loans, debt obligations, draws, repayments, renewals and related reporting requirements
- Recommends strategies for maintaining adequate liquidity, borrowing capacity and financial reserves
- Prepares financial reports, dashboards, forecasts and key performance indicators for organizational leadership
- Analyzes earned revenue, contributed revenue, departmental results and event and program profitability
- Supports decisions related to programming, pricing, ticket fees, staffing, facility use and resource allocation
- Presents financial information clearly to both financial and nonfinancial audiences
- Serves as the primary staff liaison to the Finance Committee
- Supports the Treasurer in carrying out the Treasurer’s responsibilities
- Prepares financial reports and presentations for the Finance Committee, Executive Committee and Board of Directors
- Presents financial results, forecasts, risks and recommendations at committee and Board meetings
- Coordinates the annual independent financial statement audit and serves as the primary contact for external auditors
