Position: Medical Assistant I, Family Medicine Center at Foulk Road

Christiana Care Family Medicine Center at Foulk Road is looking for a Medical Assistant I.

Family Medicine Center at Foulk Road is located at 1401 Foulk Road in Wilmington, Delaware. Family Medicine Center at Foulk Road is one of two locations for an academic family medicine practice in Foulk, alongside the Wilmington center. Both centers feature physicians who serve as educators and faculty, allowing resident doctors to participate in patient care. Faculty members actively engage in research and mentorship to promote advanced, compassionate healthcare.

The center offers a variety of primary care services enhanced by an on-site pharmacy, diagnostic testing, social services, and wellness and educational programs.

Services include primary care for all age groups, pediatric and teen visits, women’s health services, sexually transmitted infection counseling and testing, sports medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine, behavioral health, joint injections, skin biopsy, minor wound care, LGBTQ comprehensive care, and treatment for substance and alcohol use disorders.

As a Medical Assistant I, you will assist physicians during the examination and treatment of patients, whether through virtual or on‑site appointments. This role is crucial for delivering quality patient care and encompasses various clinical and clerical duties within the medical practice.

Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm
  • One night a week will be from 8am to 5:30pm
Duties / Responsibilities

As a Medical Assistant I role encompasses a variety of responsibilities aimed at providing patient care and administrative support within a healthcare practice. Key duties include greeting and assisting patients both virtually and on‑site, rooming patients, and preparing them for visits by taking and recording vital signs. The Medical Assistant I performs point‑of‑care testing, administers injections and medications, and conducts EKGs when needed.

Support for clinicians during examinations and procedures is critical, and this includes preparing treatment rooms with essential supplies, completing patient‑specific paperwork, and ensuring that electronic medical records (EMR) are up to date with relevant test results for subsequent visits. The Medical Assistant I handles patient callbacks with information as directed by providers and follows state guidelines for the sterilization of medical equipment.

The Medical Assistant I manages prior authorizations, referrals, and medication refills, schedules tests and surgeries, and performs quality control on point‑of‑care testing equipment. The Medical Assistant I offers documentation assistance during provider examinations and procedures, undertakes clerical tasks as assigned by supervisors, troubleshoots issues with video visits, and helps patients utilize Christiana Care’s Patient Portal. Safety is paramount, as the Medical Assistant I is responsible for working safely, adhering to departmental safety rules, and promptly reporting any unsafe conditions or violations that could potentially harm patients, staff, or visitors.

Education Requirements
  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • A graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant Program or hold current Medical Assistant Certification by a national organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
