Position: SCHOOL-BASED COUNSELOR III

Program: School-based Therapeutic Program-Return to Learn

SUMMARY

Provide intervention for students and families that address the student’s behavior and family issues that impact school performance and social and emotional development. Provides family centered counseling/therapy and services. Provides group counseling/therapy to middle school age students in the school setting following evidence-based model of therapy. Provide supervision support to assigned staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervision Support
  • Under the guidance of a Team Leader or Program Manager, provide supervision support to staff, as assigned.
  • Provide case consultation to School-Based Counselor II staff.
  • Supervise interns, as assigned.
  • Provide reflective constructive feedback and coaching to motivate and support staff, as assigned.
  • Identify individual staff educational development and training needs, and work to assure these needs are met.
  • Measure, monitor and evaluate staff confidentiality, quality, and productivity according to agency standards.
  • Participate in interviewing candidates.
  • Assist the Program Manager/Team Leader with completing performance evaluations, as assigned.
Direct Service
  • Provides case management and counseling/therapy to students in the school setting and at alternative school placements with an emphasis on helping students re enter into their typical school settings
  • Conduct school-based group counseling/therapy using an evidenced-based model.
  • Therapeutic services may also be provided in the client homes, or other locations in the community.
  • Provide mental health screening to include a screening for mental health/substance abuse and trauma.
  • Screen for risk of suicidality/homicidally.
  • Provide crisis assessment, clinical interventions, psycho-educational groups and training to school professionals, parents, guardians and family members.
  • Provide assessment, planning, counseling/therapy, referrals, advocacy, and collateral contacts.
  • Adhere to an evidenced-based social work model, principles and practices.
  • Document all screenings, assessments and consultations in appropriate database.
Administration
  • Plan, design, and present educational programs as appropriate.
  • Participate in regular peer review, individual supervision, and clinical consultation as appropriate.
  • Prepare and maintain timely documentation, reports and records in accordance with agency, state accreditation, and other requirements.
  • Ensure timely submission of all regular or required documentation and reports.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and facilitate RTL pop up solution focused meetings (twice a month).
  • Schedule, coordinate, facilitate the advisory committee meetings (monthly or quarterly-depending on the need)
  • Assist with PQI efforts to improve documentation and chart audits (monthly or quarterly – depending on the need)
  • Maintain a flexible schedule, including some evenings and occasional weekends to accommodate client and program needs.
  • Participate in agency meetings and committees as assigned or approved.
  • Engage in professional and community activities including tabling and outreach.
  • Maintain agency standards regarding confidentiality, quality, and productivity.
  • Establish and maintain professional, collaborative relationships with the agency and community.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling or related degree with two years post-masters experience, required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

LMSW, LACMH or equivalent graduate license required.
