Job Details
We are seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to ensure surgical instruments and equipment are cleaned, assembled, packaged, and sterilized to support patient safety and clinical excellence at Christiana Care in Wilmington. The position is a casual, 8‑hour shift from 12:00PM to 8:30PM, bi‑weekly, with every‑other Saturdays, Sundays and rotating holidays.
Responsibilities- Clean and decontaminate surgical instruments and other medical equipment following established policy and procedure.
- Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize medical devices following manufacturer’s recommendations and established procedure.
- Assemble, wrap, and label basic and specialty instruments and sets according to information in the Censi Trfac system for tracking purposes.
- Receive, unload, sort, inspect, wash, and process instruments and equipment for decontamination both manually and by automated means.
- Read, interpret, and record sterilization parameters from the sterilizer recording mechanism; complete records of the sterilization process, chemical/biological test results, and sterilizer cleaning.
- Provide asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility in accordance with the Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, and AORN standards.
- Wrap and label stainless steel items.
- Operate and perform daily cleaning and maintenance of all departmental equipment per policies for multiple sterilization and decontamination equipment.
- Inventory and restock reprocessed sterile items in sterile storage areas.
- Fill operating room case cart requisitions for scheduled next‑day cases, add‑on cases, and STAT cases with instruments, linen, stainless steel items, soft good supplies, etc.
- Unload washer‑disinfector racks of decontaminated instruments and stainless steel items and place them in designated areas.
- Assist with orientation and training of Sterile Processing Interns.
- Maintain assigned work area in a clean and organized manner following written departmental housekeeping policy.
- Answer telephone calls as appropriate.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Sterile Processing Technician Certification (CBSPD/CRCST) required. Individuals previously employed prior to certification requirements will be grandfathered.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
Hourly Pay Range: $19.84 – $29.76 (actual salary within this range will depend on individual factors including skills, experience, and qualifications).
