Job Description

The IT business partner team supporting our Research business unit is seeking an experienced Applications & Workflow Specialist to support our research organization. This role bridges the gap between science and technology, with a strong focus on ensuring laboratory and office application environments are functional, well-supported, and continuously improved. The role partners closely with scientists to enable research through reliable technology and effective workflow support.

The ideal candidate takes ownership of assigned applications and workflows, driving work forward independently and coordinating with others as needed to deliver reliable results.

Key Responsibilities

This role carries functional responsibility for scientific applications and workflows, with the level of ownership varying by system and business need.

  • Ensure assigned laboratory and office applications remain functional, and supported
, including defining and facilitating installation and configuration, generating documentation, coordinating with vendors, and managing lifecycle support. Validation may be required for GxP-relevant systems.
  • Act as a primary IT point of contact for a defined set of research applications
, providing day-to-day operational oversight and coordinating fixes, enhancements, upgrades, and releases with vendors and internal teams.
  • Drive resolution of application issues and escalations
, partnering with scientists, vendors, and IT teams to restore functionality, address root causes, and prevent recurrence.
  • Shape and prioritize application/workflow enhancements by translating scientific and operational needs into clear, actionable technical requirements and recommendations.
  • Support and oversee workflows spanning laboratory instrumentation and downstream analysis/reporting tools
, collaborating with system owners, business stakeholders, and specialized IT teams as appropriate.
  • Provide advanced functional support for scientific software (e.g., Nextflow, Posit Workbench, CryoSPARC, Ascentos, Sciex

OS, Visopharm, Prism), including ownership of complex issues, escalations, and workflow-level troubleshooting.
  • Lead automation and digital lab initiatives by ensuring applications and workflows are operationally ready, well-documented, and supported through change.
  • Own/Generate and maintain system documentation
, configurations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs), and actively transition low-value, repetitive activities to helpdesk or other support teams where appropriate.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives to improve application reliability, usability, and overall user experience across the Research environment.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a scientific discipline; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience supporting IT systems within pharmaceutical or biotechnology research environments, including laboratory and office applications.
