At Winterthur Search Fund, our Technical Advisors play an important role in the Search Fund process. You will apply your specific technical expertise to support the executive team and our portfolio companies by serving as the expert of your technical domain.
This position offers a flexible, part-time work schedule with remote and hybrid work options, depending on project requirements. We customize the Technical Advisor role to each selected candidate.
Cryptography Technical AdvisorWe are seeking a hands‑on cryptography expert who enjoys solving complex security challenges and translating theoretical cryptography into robust, real‑world implementations.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expertise on the development of cryptographic algorithms and protocols for secure communications and networking devices
- Evaluate and select appropriate cryptographic primitives and standards (e.g., symmetric, asymmetric, hash‑based, and post‑quantum algorithms)
- Perform threat modeling, security analysis, and cryptographic risk assessments
- Review and optimize cryptographic implementations for performance, scalability, and hardware constraints
- Support secure key management, certificate infrastructures, and lifecycle management
- Share technical guidance, documentation, and knowledge transfer to internal teams
- Stay current with emerging cryptographic research, standards, and vulnerabilities
- Experience with hardware security modules (HSMs), secure elements, or trusted execution environments
- Familiarity with post‑quantum cryptography and emerging standards
- Experience with compliance‑driven security environments (e.g., FIPS, Common Criteria)
- Background in performance optimization for cryptographic operations on constrained devices
- Experience supporting mission‑critical projects and demanding clients
- Interest in building new technology

Technical Advisor – Various DomainsWe are seeking Technical Advisors with expertise in the following domains:
- Information & Communications Technology (ICT)
- Information Security
- Smart City Infrastructure
- Satellite / Space Communications
- Financial Technology (Fin Tech)
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Quantum Computing
- Research and analyze technology alternatives and recommend solutions for each project
- Partner with the executive team to provide in-depth analysis to define technical issues and develop innovative options
- Serve as the technical coach to Searchers on the technologies relevant to their projects
- Engage with industry experts to understand emerging technological trends
- Perform technical due diligence on portfolio company technology
- Advanced degree in a related field, along with substantive work experience
- Experience leading or supporting engineering teams, projects and/or vendor relationships.
- Prior experience with emerging technologies, constantly evaluating and recommending potential partnerships that provide efficiencies and competitive advantage within your domain
- Prior experience in a small or mid-size company with a technological focus
- Solid organization and communication skills
- Skilled at collaborating with others and comfortable navigating at any level of a company
