Legal Secretary
Richards, Layton & Finger, Delaware's largest law firm, seeks a Legal Administrative Assistant for the Litigation team in Wilmington, Delaware. The standard hours are 9:00am - 5:30pm, on a hybrid schedule (in office 4-days and remote on Fridays). After training, you will follow a structured hybrid schedule. In this role, you will be a key member of a busy practice supporting complex litigation matters in Delaware state and federal courts, with substantial responsibility for deadlines, filings, and day‑to‑day case management.
You will work within a collaborative, team‑based model, partnering closely with multiple attorneys, paralegals, and fellow secretaries to keep sophisticated matters moving efficiently. After an initial training period, the position follows a regular hybrid schedule of four days in the office and one remote day per week, with some reasonable flexibility to accommodate occasional personal appointments and peak workload needs.
Key responsibilities
- Manage active calendars and litigation dockets for multiple attorneys, including court deadlines, hearings, depositions, and client meetings.
- Experience in Delaware courts preferred.
- Prepare, format, and proofread a high volume of pleadings, motions, discovery, and correspondence for complex matters with a strong focus on accuracy and consistency.
- Handle electronic filing in District Court (Pacer CM/ECF) and Chancery Court (File&Serve), and other Delaware Court systems, ensuring compliance with court rules and local practices.
- Coordinate with paralegals and attorneys to organize case files, exhibits, and hearing/trial materials, and to keep case teams informed of approaching deadlines.
- Communicate professionally with clients, court staff, opposing counsel, and internal team members.
- Assist with time entry, expense reporting, and other administrative tasks to support efficient and accurate billing.
What we’re looking for
- Significant experience as a litigation legal secretary, including hands‑on responsibility for e‑filing and managing a high volume of work in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and solid typing skills (around 60 wpm), with the ability to learn firm systems quickly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, and a professional presence.
- Proven ability to juggle multiple attorneys and matters at once, prioritize effectively, and stay calm under pressure.
- A genuine commitment to quality work, reliability, and long‑term growth within a litigation practice.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a cohesive team, including supporting other practice areas when needed.
