Summary

We are seeking a qualified, proactive, and enthusiastic Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to support our Southeast Region projects. The EHS Manager will help lead the implementation and maintenance of our EHS programs, ensuring compliance, engagement, and a culture of safety across our operations.

Essential Functions

Environmental, Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Support the Southeast Region EHS Manager in implementing and managing all aspects of the EHS program.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, MSHA, EPA, DOL, ANSI, ASTM, and other regulatory and company safety standards.
  • Conduct project site audits and inspections throughout the Southeast Region.
  • Assist in developing and executing safety policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Manage onboarding, safety training, orientation, and ongoing development programs.
  • Develop and track EHS training using platforms such as JJ Keller Safety Management Suite.
  • Serve as lead trainer and presenter for toolbox talks, safety updates, and Lunch & Learn sessions.
  • Collaborate with project leadership to address EHS challenges and implement risk-reducing strategies.
  • Lead or assist in incident investigations and the development of corrective action plans.
  • Support insurer risk visits and coordination with Risk/Loss Control specialists.
  • Maintain and update Project Health and Safety Plans (P-HASP).
  • Help manage DOT, Substance Abuse, and Work Steps programs.
  • Coordinate regional EHS events such as Zero Harm rollouts and the Annual EHS Conference.
  • Represent the company in meetings with regulatory bodies (e.g., NC DOL) and at industry events.
  • Act as EHS liaison in the absence of the Regional EHS Manager.
  • Distribute weekly safety communications to regional and executive leadership.
  • Support branding and safety promotional materials (e.g., hats, shirts, handouts).
  • Must be able to site visit projects both days & nights.
  • Travel: mostly day trips within Southeast region, with some overnight travel to projects and meetings, conferences and trainings.
  • All other miscellaneous assigned tasks.

  • Builds relationships with our customers, clients, vendors, JVs, and subcontractors to improve safety performance, reputation, and lower risk.

  • Participates in company training programs and commits to self-development.
  • Keeps current with new developments in industry regulations and company safety policies and communicates to the appropriate personnel.
  • Negotiates skillfully in tough situations with internal and external parties by winning concessions without damaging relationships and being direct and diplomatic.
  • Assists in developing/facilitating safety-related company training programs.
  • Actively participate in organizations and serve on safety committees (e.g., CAGC, AGC, NCDOL, GHCA, NSC, ASSP).

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of EHS experience in construction or a related industry.
  • Experience in heavy civil and infrastructure construction required.
  • OSHA/MSHA/DOT experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a recognized EHS credential within 1 year (CSP, ASP, CHST, etc.).
  • Safety instructor credentials a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS platforms (e.g., JJ Keller).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and team collaboration skills.
