Position: R&D Lab Technician – Polymer/Materials

Pay Rate: $38–$41/hour

Duration: 12+ Months (Possible Extension)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently conducting organic reactions (pilot and lab scales), including reaction system assembly, monitoring, product work‑up/analysis/characterization, and documentation using an electronic lab notebook.
  • Independently making parts from resins, including mixing, milling, pressing, sintering, monitoring, product work‑up/analysis/characterization, and documentation.
  • Analyzing results, troubleshooting unexpected outcomes, and suggesting next steps.
  • Characterizing materials using spectroscopic techniques (e.g., NMR, IR) and becoming proficient in polymer instrumentation such as DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, Impact, and Tensile Testing.
  • Properly documenting and reporting data; presenting findings in team meetings.
  • Troubleshooting/calibrating instruments; authoring SOPs and manuals.
  • Supporting safety protocols, PSM, inventory management, ordering supplies, and coordinating external testing (including DOT‑compliant shipping).
  • Handling/transferring flammable materials and powders (drum quantities) with some limited lifting of lab equipment.
Qualifications:
  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience with pilot‑scale polymerization and handling drum quantities of flammables highly preferred.
  • Knowledge or hands‑on experience with polymer characterization tools (preferred).
  • Ability to learn various testing methods/instruments quickly.
  • Experience with mechanical testing equipment preferred.
