Registered School Nurse Bsn
The School Nurse promotes and protects the health and well-being of students and staff to support academic success. The School Nurse provides direct nursing care, manages student health services, coordinates health screenings, maintains health records, and serves as a liaison among families, healthcare providers, and school personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Delaware.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience; pediatric, public health, or school nursing experience preferred.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of Delaware Department of Education and Delaware Division of Public Health regulations.
- Successful completion of required criminal background checks and tuberculosis screening.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess and provide nursing care for students with acute and chronic health conditions.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, state regulations, and school policies.
- Develop and implement Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs) as needed.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide appropriate first aid and emergency care.
- Monitor and manage communicable diseases in accordance with public health guidelines.
- Health Records and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
- Review student immunization records and ensure compliance with Delaware requirements.
- Conduct and coordinate mandated health screenings, including vision, hearing, and other required screenings.
- Prepare and submit required state and school health reports.
- Health Education and Prevention:
- Promote health and wellness initiatives for students and staff.
- Provide health education and training related to disease prevention, nutrition, hygiene, and safety.
- Assist with the development and implementation of school health policies and procedures.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, healthcare providers, and school staff regarding student health concerns.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and special education teams to support student needs and participate in Student Support Team, MTSS, Section 504, and IEP meetings as appropriate.
- School Safety:
- Assist in developing and implementing emergency response procedures.
- Support health-related aspects of school safety and crisis response plans.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist students during emergencies.
- Ability to perform CPR and other emergency response procedures.
- Work Environment:
- The work environment includes a school setting with frequent interaction with students, staff, families, and community healthcare providers.
Terms of Employment:
Salary and work year shall be established by the School Leader and shall be consistent with applicable school policies and Delaware regulation.
General Information:
This position is for the school year and the successful candidate will start in August of 2026. Selected candidates will be contacted to set up an interview. Compensation Great Oaks provides a competitive compensation and benefits package; exact compensation will vary based on experience and education.
