The Territory Sales Representative - Lawn & Garden Specialist generates sales with new and existing customers by understanding their business, identifying their needs, pitching relevant products, and ensuring they have a positive experience.
Consumer Product Experience Desired
Compensation: Exempt base salary $45-50k, plus commission (all in around $75-95k)
Location: Northeast Region (Philly/Trenton/Wilmington area) –
The Successful Candidate MUST live within the assigned territory
Travel: As needed to customer base and special events as required
Key Responsibilities:
- Manages, develops, and grows the assigned territory by exhibiting a thorough knowledge of the industry, the customer’s business needs and product capabilities.
- Identifies potential new customers through various channels, prepares sales materials and arranges meetings to introduce the company and its products.
- Keeps customers informed of market trends and associated product offerings.
- Serves as a profitability resource to customers by suggesting ways to reduce cost, increase margin or expand growing space.
- Submits and processes orders ensuring customers receive the products or services they require within the anticipated period.
- Provides effective follow‑up contact with customers. Assesses the customer’s satisfaction with the product and service provided. Works with internal departments to resolve customer issues promptly.
- Participate in ongoing training and workshops and attend networking events to develop and maintain an understanding of industry trends, product knowledge, and network.
- Prepare reports and provide feedback in support of sales initiatives for management and marketing departments.
What you will need to succeed:
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business or marketing preferred.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience as an outside sales representative.
- 2-3 years of garden center/retail management and or purchasing experience preferred.
- Strong customer service mentality essential.
- Ability to learn and apply diverse customer, vendor, or third‑party requirements.
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge of products and make recommendations.
- Ability to develop positive relationships with customers.
- Ability to work with current sales representatives.
- Excellent Excel and general computer skills. (Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word)
