Temporary Landfill Laborer – Cherry Island Landfill (Wilmington, DE)

The Delaware Solid Waste Authority is seeking to hire a temporary Landfill Laborer to work with the Landfill Gas staff.

PURPOSE: To assist Wellfield Technicians in modifying, expanding, and repairing landfill gas system in accordance with plans or landfill needs.

NOTE: This safety-sensitive position requires drug testing.

Job Duties:

• Assists Wellfield Technicians with modifying landfill gas systems in accordance with system or landfill needs.
• Assists Wellfield Technicians in expanding landfill gas system in accordance with plans.
• Assists Wellfield Technicians in repairing landfill gas system as necessary.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND

SKILLS:

Must possess a valid driver’s license. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Backhoe experience preferred. Requires First Aid and CPR certification (certification training provided by DSWA). Knowledge of basic mechanics and heavy equipment. Skill in fusing pipe. Ability to communicate effectively.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking and hearing. Requires lifting up to 75 pounds. Required vision: clear vision at 20 inches or less; distance vision at 20 feet or more; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; ability to adjust focus. Position may expose to outdoor environment, noise, extreme temperatures, vibration, moisture/humidity, dust, fumes, gases, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, explosive hazards, burn hazards, and adverse weather conditions.
