This position is responsible for advanced plumbing work and higher-level general maintenance across the hospital campus. It includes installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of complex plumbing systems, mechanical infrastructure, and cross-functional building systems. The technician ensures safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations and provides technical leadership on complex maintenance tasks. The technician completes periodic inspections and maintains equipment associated with life safety, plumbing, heating, mechanical, and associated systems.
Responsibilities- Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
- Performs expert-level plumbing work, including installation, troubleshooting, and repair of domestic water systems, drainage systems, medical gas piping, and backflow prevention assemblies.
- Executes higher-level general maintenance tasks across HVAC, mechanical, structural, and building systems.
- Diagnoses complex system failures and recommends long-term corrective actions. Installs, maintains, and repairs pumps, control valves, water heaters, heat exchangers, pressure systems, and related components.
- Maintains accurate logs of work performed, inspections, and preventative maintenance.
- Maintains routine records and inspections, preventative maintenance and repair records.
- Provides guidance and direction to junior technicians and coordinates work with contractors.
- Fabricates plumbing and mechanical piping systems using threaded, flange, welded, brazed, and soldered connections.
- Rebuilds, adjusts, and repairs valves, pumps, and mechanical components.
- Responds to facility emergencies, including leaks, mechanical failures, and critical system faults.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local regulations and compliance requirements.
- Other duties as assigned by the manager.
- Comprehensive knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, mechanical systems, and general maintenance practices, as normally obtained through completion of an accredited trade or vocational program in plumbing or mechanical systems.
- High school diploma required.
- Three (3) – five (5) years of commercial or institutional plumbing experience, including experience with related mechanical systems.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, system diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Experience in a hospital setting preferred.
