Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician
.
The Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The technician will serve as the lead on jobsites, provide consultation to customers and technicians, and achieve high level performance metrics.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment, such as electrical, brake, cooling systems, fans, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, etc.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs and resolve problems.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work and allocating time effectively.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work in Repair Orders using company iOS devices and the proprietary TRAIT application, uploading pictures and notes.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely manner.
- Work independently and manage daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity within standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, and findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company safety policies.
- High School Diploma/GED plus 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and at least 3 years of experience; or 7 years of experience in a related field.
- Possess a set of hand tools required for the job.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Obtain ASE 608/609 certification within 18 months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or provide a DOT medical card with at least 4 months remaining).
- Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license with a valid driver qualification file.
- Qualified drivers needed; a clean driving record is required.
