Job Description
As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of heavy construction equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation across multiple job sites. You will work both in the shop and in the field on machinery such as excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, graders, rollers, and trucks, using your mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical expertise to keep equipment running at peak performance.
Responsibilities- Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy construction equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, rollers, and trucks.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and safety checks to minimize downtime.
- Repair or replace engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic systems, and other components.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and manuals.
- Test equipment post-repair to ensure proper functionality and safety compliance.
- Document all maintenance, repairs, and parts usage accurately.
- Perform work in both shop and field environments, including active construction sites.
- Use hand and power tools safely for repair, disassembly, and reassembly.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and follow all safety procedures and company policies.
- Collaborate with operators and team members to prioritize repairs and resolve issues efficiently.
- 3+ years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems.
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair complex heavy equipment issues.
- Experience with preventive maintenance and inspections on construction machinery.
- Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and service manuals.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding conditions.
- Ownership of basic mechanic tools.
- Technical training or certifications (diesel/heavy equipment) preferred.

Work EnvironmentThis role combines shop-based work with field service at active construction sites across Delaware and the surrounding region. You will work in a physically demanding environment around heavy equipment, with exposure to outdoor conditions. The shop is equipped with modern diagnostic tools and safety equipment, and the overall environment emphasizes safety, organization, and professionalism.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilmington, DE.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
