Day in the Life of a Fire Alarm Technician
As a Fire Alarm Technician, you help commercial buildings fulfill code requirements for fire protection by installing and servicing alarm systems. Your duties include conducting acceptance tests of newly installed or retrofitted fire alarm systems, installing control panels, modules, conduits, wires, and intrusion switches, upselling products and services, responding to emergencies during regular business hours and on-call, maintaining accurate paperwork and reports, and building rapport with clients.
Qualifications- Experience in troubleshooting low voltage systems.
- Experience programming low voltage systems.
- Ability to install fire alarm systems, identify major issues, and complete necessary programming.
- Thorough working knowledge of NFPA 72, electrical codes, OSHA requirements, general work safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to crawl up ladders and work in unusual conditions.
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.
- Excellent customer service skills.
Two or more years of experience is preferred. Good problem-solving skills, self-motivation, proactive attitude, independent work, and strong interpersonal communication are also required.
Work ScheduleThe full-time position runs the morning shift from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with participation in an on-call rotation.
