Victim Service Specialist
The Delaware Department of Justice seeks a Victim Service Specialist to join the Victims' Compensation Assistance Program (VCAP) in New Castle County. At the Delaware Department of Justice, we know that protecting and serving victims of crime is about more than investigation and prosecution – it is also about helping victims and their families along the road to recovery. The Victims' Compensation Assistance Program (VCAP) provides compensation to help cover the costs of a variety of services that help victims, and their families begin to rebuild their lives, including compensation for lost wages, medical expenses, mental health counseling, and funeral expenses.
By awarding financial compensation for losses that victims sustain because of violent crime, VCAP can help alleviate the financial burden and distress that crime leaves behind. VCAP serves as an important lifeline, reaching out to victims wherever they are located throughout all three Delaware counties. Applications are received by the office and reviewed by our staff. The Agency manages the program's funds and awards compensation.
This Victim Service Specialist (VSS) is responsible for processing claims filed with VCAP. This position is also responsible for the claim investigation, determination, disposition, and reimbursement preparation for victims and claimants. Investigations within this position are conducted in accordance with established guidelines of the Delaware Code. This VSS position compiles claim information, ensures that available information meets statutory requirements and guidelines, collaborates with law enforcement and service providers, prepares written correspondence and assists victims of crime throughout the VCAP application process.
Occasional statewide travel within Kent, Sussex and New Castle County is required. Anticipated start date is August 10, 2026.
