Our organization is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Driver to transport participants and support daily operations. The Driver is responsible for safely operating the school van and other organizational vehicles according to a set daily schedule, while ensuring the well-being of all passengers and the proper care of vehicles and equipment.

Organizational Overview

Founded in 1946, Kingswood Community Center, Inc. (KCC) sits in the heart of the Riverside Community located in Northeast Wilmington. KCC's mission is to enable people in Northeast Wilmington and surrounding communities to achieve their potential for economic, social, and personal well-being. KCC offers programs for the youngest and oldest alike, including an early learning center, before and aftercare, youth programs, and a senior center.

In addition to programming, KCC provides resources, opportunities, and events to all ages.

What You’ll Do

As our Driver, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, reliable transportation of children, seniors, and program participants. You will operate school vans and other vehicles on a set daily schedule, assist passengers with boarding and exiting, and maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly environment during transport. In addition to driving responsibilities, you will support vehicle care and basic maintenance, complete required documentation, assist with deliveries, and collaborate with staff to support programs and daily operations while maintaining compliance with all safety policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely operate organization vehicles in compliance with traffic laws, safety standards, and agency policies
  • Transport participants to and from Kingswood Community Center, programs, trips, and activities
  • Take attendance and maintain responsibility for passenger safety at all times
  • Assist passengers with safe boarding, seating, and exiting of vehicles
  • Communicate and enforce vehicle safety rules in a courteous and respectful manner
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report maintenance or repair needs
  • Perform basic vehicle upkeep, including fueling, checking tires and lights, and coordinating inspections
  • Complete trip logs, mileage reports, gas receipts, and delivery documentation
  • Communicate schedule changes, delays, or concerns promptly to supervisors
  • Support equipment handling, storage, and distribution as needed
  • Assist with facility-related tasks and special projects when required
  • Maintain compliance with all organizational policies, safety procedures, and reporting requirements
What We’re Looking For

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience driving a bus or van and working with children
Certification Requirements
  • First Aid/CPR preferred; must obtain within the first 60 days of hire.
Conditions of Hire
  • A satisfactory criminal background and reference check, a valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong driving skills and thorough knowledge of traffic laws
  • Excellent judgment and ability to work independently
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional, courteous customer service in challenging situations
  • Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple responsibilities
  • Attention to detail and accurate record-keeping
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist with unexpected tasks
  • Cultural sensitivity and commitment to confidentiality
  • Basic understanding of vehicle mechanics and operation
  • Ability to handle equipment and perform physical tasks as needed
