Job Summary

The Senior Manager of System Operations is responsible for providing daily work train operating plans. The employee works closely with Engineering, Mechanical and Transportation to ensure product demands are met in a time sensitive manner and can make changes seamlessly when problems occur on daily basis. The incumbent will work closely with the Wilmington Shops to manage locomotive maintenance requirements and provide daily and long-term plans.

The incumbent will also work closely with the host railroads when it pertains to Amtrak engines/passenger cars set out on a foreign railroad or Amtrak moving equipment on/off host railroads lines.

Essential Functions

Provides direct support to the AVP of Engineering & Production, Director System Operations in support of daily operations and service disruptions. Arranges with creative planning daily T and E requests for work trains and shop trains to meet deadlines and goals of the IMCS and Transportation department. Advises and makes recommendations for equipment acquisition, assignments and daily manipulation after assessing short/long term operational needs.

Coordinates closely with all CNOC desks, providing direct support for movement of passenger equipment in freight services throughout the system. Disseminates critical information from the Transportation or Mechanical field in a timely manner to avoid negative impact to production. Will handle multiple projects continually during the production year to meet all deadlines from stakeholders in various departments.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. Plus 9 years of relevant work experience. Demonstrated management experience in a railroad environment with exposure to Equipment Maintenance and Overhaul Programs. Demonstrated working knowledge of railroad Operating Rules and experience coordinating equipment operating activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. Plus 11 years of relevant work experience. Knowledge of Amtrak equipment (Freight and Passenger) and being able to track these assets daily. Technical knowledge of Amtrak system operations and the national rail network. The ability to use equipment in various tasks, developing operating plans and communicating those plans to stakeholders to coordinate production.

The ability to bring multiple departments together to collectively ensure production can meet or exceed their goals daily.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrate ability to motivate teams and achieve results through effective leadership Proficient in facilitating meetings, presentations, and interviews to foster clear communication and collaboration Skilled in conflict resolution, time management, and conducting research to overcome challenges Proficient in Arrow, Rail-Res, Rail-Res Stars, Excel, Cis-Prod, Business Objects, Operations Portal, and TCD Asset Details. Extensive experience with PC-based spreadsheet software including Microsoft Excel and Access, as well as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Possess comprehensive understanding of railroad operations, providing valuable insights and expertise in related tasks and projects. General knowledge of relevant FRA and AAR rules, regulations and procedures. Ability to manage multiple projects effectively. Excellent written/oral communication skills. Creative problem solving skills along with time management skills.

The salary/hourly range is $ – $. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary.
