Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic educator to join our community as a Math teacher on one of our 6th-grade teams. The candidate will teach the DESE Math curriculum and demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the middle school team philosophy and student needs.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement lesson plans that meet students' needs, district curriculum, and state standards for 6th-grade math.
  • Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicate them to students.
  • Use assessment data to inform instruction, assess student learning regularly, and provide progress reports as needed.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies that consider individual learning styles and performance levels, and provide practice and extension opportunities.
  • Create an engaging, orderly, secure, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with the special education liaison and other support staff to support students on educational plans.
  • Carry out the school's disciplinary code fairly and justly.
  • Give assignments that reinforce classroom instruction and communicate student progress to parents or guardians.
  • Provide written assessments, referrals, and evaluations when necessary for students with special needs.
  • Participate in IEP and 504 meetings as required.
  • Model learning and behavior consistent with school expectations.
  • Attend staff or team meetings and serve on staff committees.
  • Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness.
  • Supervise students in hallways, library, and special events.
  • Represent the school and district professionally in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
  • Comply with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Attend work regularly and be punctual.
  • Support students with social‑emotional challenges by providing coping strategies, direct support, and accommodations.
  • Design classroom activities and lessons with multiple levels so all students can access the curriculum and meet IEP goals.
  • Formally and informally assess student learning to create a comprehensive learning program.
Qualifications
  • Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Math (grades 5‑8).
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience (preferred 2‑3 years, including middle school experience).
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Family and Community Engagement
  • Build partnerships with families and encourage active participation in students’ learning.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents through conferences, written messages, telephone, and email.
  • Communicate student progress and development to parents or guardians.
