Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support students within and outside of the general education classroom according to their IEP (Individual Educational Program).
  • Work with the classroom teacher and assist in the classroom as needed; may include small group instruction, giving frequent breaks, and making modifications for diverse learning styles.
  • Work with moderate and/or severe special needs populations, such as learning disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism, or intellectual disabilities.
  • Implement current IEPs and data collection under the supervision of school or district staff.
  • Assist school staff by implementing student accommodations per individual IEPs, 504 Plans, Behavior Intervention Plans, and the District Curriculum Accommodation Plan.
  • Work with students to implement accommodations and modifications.
  • Supervise students during various times of the work day (morning, afternoon, lunch, and recess) as required.
  • Assist students with mobility, transitions, self-care (toileting, feeding, dressing) and IEP‑related care plans, requiring lifting, bending, and use of adaptive equipment under teacher supervision.
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities to support student needs.
  • Implement PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) strategies.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with all staff.
  • Attend staff meetings as designated by the Educational Assistant Contract.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of work with students and staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
Qualifications
  • Experience supporting students behaviorally, academically, and emotionally.
  • Experience with specialized instructional practices including ABA methodologies, behavior plans, and/or specific learning disabilities.
  • Safety Care Training preferred; training provided to those who have not completed it.
  • Coursework or classes in education, social work, or child development.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
