Locus Robotics is a leader in eCommerce fulfillment optimization, enabling warehouse operators to achieve 2–3× efficiency gains through collaborative autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). Our solutions integrate seamlessly with existing warehouse infrastructure and management systems.
Locus Robotics is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op to support the development of our autonomous mobile robots and related accessories. This role sits within the Customer & Continuation Engineering group and focuses on design, analysis, and cross‑functional collaboration to bring scalable, cost‑effective hardware solutions to production.
Onsite position located at our Wilmington, MA headquarters, requiring five (5) days per week onsite. Only local candidates will be considered.
Co‑Op period is June/July - December 2026, during standard business hours (Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM ET).
Responsibilities
- Design, model, and detail components and assemblies for AMRs and supporting accessories using Creo/Windchill and Solid Works
- Evaluate designs for strength and stiffness using hand calculations, FEA, and other analytical methods
- Develop components optimized for high-volume, cost‑effective manufacturing
- Partner with operations, manufacturing, and procurement teams to improve assembly efficiency and meet production timelines
- Collaborate with suppliers to define competitive manufacturing strategies
- Support prototyping efforts, including machining, 3D printing, and rapid iteration processes
- Assist in developing and executing validation and test plans
- Document designs and present work through design reviews to cross‑functional stakeholders
Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Academic or hands‑on experience in robotics, mechanical, or electromechanical design
- Experience designing for manufacturability (machined parts, sheet metal, castings, thermoplastics)
- Familiarity with CAD tools such as Creo, Windchill, or Solid Works
- Understanding of engineering fundamentals, including stress analysis and basic FEA
- Knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards
- Experience working with suppliers, RFQs, and manufacturing processes
- Exposure to requirements definition, validation, and risk analysis (e.g., FMEA)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with teams and interact with customers
- Hands‑on, team‑oriented mindset with a proactive approach
Additional Information:
The expected hourly rate for this internship ranges from $20 to $30 per hour, depending on the candidate’s degree program (undergraduate or graduate) and relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
