Job Description & How to Apply Below
This role focuses on designing and developing electrical schematics and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) for manufacturing test fixtures and validation systems. You will own the end-to-end hardware bring-up process, from component selection and layout review to soldering, rework, and board-level debugging, while also developing automated test software to support reliable, scalable production testing.
Responsibilities
* Design and develop electrical schematics and PCBAs for manufacturing test fixtures and validation systems.
* Own end-to-end hardware bring-up, including component selection, layout reviews, soldering and rework, and board-level debugging.
* Build and integrate test fixtures that include power distribution, relays, multiplexing, signal conditioning, and measurement systems.
* Develop and support automated test software, preferably using Python, to control instruments and execute test sequences.
* Perform in-depth electrical debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, digital multimeters (DMMs), power analyzers, and related tools to isolate failures at both board and system level.
* Support manufacturing deployment by troubleshooting issues at contract manufacturing sites, improving yield, and resolving production failures.
* Analyze test data and failure trends to drive design improvements and enhance test coverage.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure test solutions meet product requirements, reliability goals, and manufacturability needs.
* Document test procedures, hardware designs, and test results to ensure repeatability and knowledge sharing.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of test systems, processes, and documentation in a production environment.
Essential Skills
* BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree with 4-7 years of hands-on experience in hardware design and test engineering.
* Strong expertise in schematic design and PCBA development using tools such as Altium Designer or equivalent ECAD software.
* Proven experience in board bring-up, including soldering, rework, and hardware debugging at the component and signal level.
* Solid understanding of analog and digital circuit design, including power circuits, signal integrity, and noise considerations.
* Hands-on experience with test instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), power supplies, electronic loads, and logic analyzers.
* Experience designing and building test fixtures that involve relays, multiplexers, data acquisition (DAQ) systems, and interface boards.
* Proficiency in Python or a similar scripting language for test automation and instrument control.
* Experience supporting manufacturing environments and working with Contract Manufacturers (CMs).
* Familiarity with communication protocols including CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, and Ethernet.
* Ability to analyze test data and failure trends to identify root causes and implement design or test improvements.
* Strong communication skills to clearly document designs, test procedures, and findings for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
* Experience with embedded systems, sensors, or motor systems in a test or validation context.
* Familiarity with data logging tools, databases, or systems used for storing and analyzing test results.
* Experience integrating electronics test solutions in production environments with CMs or high-volume manufacturing lines.
* Knowledge of electronics test best practices, including fixture reliability, maintainability, and safety considerations.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers.
* Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on root-cause analysis and continuous improvement in test coverage and reliability.
