Job Description

Harris Space and Mission Systems is seeking a Test Software Engineer to support the development, verification, and validation of test set software (TSSW) for advanced space‑based payload systems. This role will work closely with System Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) and cross‑functional development teams to define software requirements, develop automated and semi‑automated test solutions, and support product verification across all stages of integration and test.

The engineer will be part of a small, highly collaborative team of ~6 test engineers, contributing directly to mission‑critical payload development efforts.

Essential Functions
  • Collaborate with SEIT and the development team to define, refine, and document requirements for test set software (TSSW) that support system verification, checkout, and compliance activities.
  • Design, develop, and maintain test software applications using LabVIEW and/or Python to enable hardware checkout, functional verification, and compliance testing.
  • Support testing across multiple levels of product development, including module‑level, subsystem‑level, and full payload‑level integration and verification.
  • Develop automated test sequences, data collection utilities, and analysis tools to improve test efficiency, repeatability, and traceability.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of verification and validation activities to ensure products meet technical, performance, and compliance requirements.
  • Interface with systems, hardware, software, and integration/test engineers to ensure test solutions align with evolving program needs.
  • Troubleshoot test anomalies, investigate failures, and support root cause analysis during development and integration.
  • Contribute to test documentation, procedures, reports, and configuration‑controlled artifacts required for formal program reviews and product acceptance.
  • Participate in a small team environment, sharing responsibilities across design, development, test execution, and issue resolution as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Professional experience working with any of the following:
LabVIEW, Python, COSMOS, MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Experience with space‑based payloads, aerospace systems, or other highly reliable mission‑critical platforms.
  • 3+ years of experience in hardware/software integration and test, including development of tools used for checkout and verification.
  • Professional experience troubleshooting and debugging in a lab or integration environment.
Preferred Additional Skills
  • Active Top Secret or TS/SCI clearance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small, collaborative engineering team.
  • Experience with Dev Ops tools including Jira, Bitbucket, Jenkins, and Confluence.
  • Working knowledge of image processors, visible cameras, IR detectors, servo motors, actuators, and focus mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with verification/compliance testing processes and structured test documentation practices.
  • Experience with automated test equipment, instrumentation interfaces, data logging, and results analysis.
  • Professional experience supporting testing at different levels of assembly.
