Position: 2026 Fall Mechanical Test Engineering Undergraduate Intern/Co-op

A Day in Your Life at MKS:
As a Mechanical Test Engineering Intern at MKS Instruments, you will partner with Technical Operations, Design Engineering and Production to develop, document and deploy test stands and fixtures to support MKS Operations. You will report to the Test Engineering Manager.

Internship Program Overview

4‑month co‑op assignment within a functional area of MKS Instruments that provides students a comprehensive and engaging experience from before the program starts to after the program ends. This position is available from September 2026 to December 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Meaningful work and project assignments
  • Develop 3D models and assemblies utilizing the Solid Works CAD package
  • Create 2D manufacturing drawings from 3D files using Solid Works
  • Analyze existing and new CAD designs, optimizing for 3D print rapid prototyping
  • Verify and test components and assemblies to ensure functional requirements are met
  • Perform engineering validation testing – generate test plans, create test setups/hardware, conduct testing, report findings
Skills You Bring
  • Enrollment in a Bachelor's Degree program in Mechanical Engineering (3rd or 4th year preferred)
  • Experience with Solid Works and creation of 3D solid models
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and complete work independently
Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of ANSI drawing standards
  • Knowledge of FEA (stress, flow, thermal simulation)
Travel Requirements

No travel is required.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
  • Must be able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand
  • Operates in a professional office environment with an average noise level
Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly Pay Range: $25.00 to $27.00 per hour
  • Benefits package for interns/co‑ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis
