Harris has an opportunity for a senior level harness designer to join our talented engineering organization. This experienced professional will have proficiency across multidisciplinary functions and will perform mechanical analysis tasks on complex opto-mechanical systems and precision mechanisms in a program team environment. This position is responsible for the harness design and analysis of composite, metallic, ceramic, and glass components and assemblies for space and airborne systems.
Essential Functions:
* Interpret design specifications and create finite element models of complex components and assemblies for structural analysis.
* Analyze the models for stress, strain, displacement, modes, etc. at both component and assembly levels.
* Prepare reports, formal documentation, and presentation materials summarizing analysis results and presenting results to both external and internal groups.
* Ensure a comprehensive technical approach to meet assigned objective while providing assistance to engineering team in order to meet assigned objectives.
* Frequently interface directly with customer technical leads and management.
* Participates in and present information for Preliminary Design reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR) and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM).
* Interfaces with outside suppliers/customers and other engineering disciplines to drive designs to closure (Thermal, Systems Engineering, Electrical, Manufacturing, Integration and Testing, Quality, Configuration Management).
* Presents design details at program reviews to customers and independent reviewers.
* Support new business opportunities
* Work multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing situations
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in engineering and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
* 4+ years of professional experience years of structural analysis methods (FEA and hand-calculations), and experience with FEA and Pre/Post Processor software (preferably Femap with Nastran)
* 5+ years of professional experience working with aerospace systems
* Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS/SCI security clearance Preferred Additional
Skills:
* Knowledge of system level hardware design & development, mechanical and structural analysis, payload level integration & test, and risk mitigation for space-based environments.
* Able to support programs with mission/requirements definition, concept generation, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design selection, component selection, integration and test support, materials selection, FEM modeling, design documentation and collaboration with manufacturing operations for fabrication in a program team environment.
* Experience with optics and/or opto-mechanical hardware.
* Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplined team environment
* Experience in the space industry highly desired
* Familiarity with CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor and CREO
* Experience with computational programming such as Matlab or Python.
* Active TS/SCI Clearance or the ability to satisfy requirements for a TS/SCI (SSBI). In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater
