Robinson Unmanned (formerly Ascent Aero Systems) is the uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) business unit of Robinson Helicopter Company. Focused on designing and manufacturing all-weather, high-performance UAS from 249g to 1,500 pounds, Robinson Unmanned combines modular open system architecture, advanced autonomy technologies, and robust, full-scale manufacturing expertise to deliver scalable, aerospace-grade, unmanned VTOL capabilities across mission-critical industrial, civil and defense markets, all while reducing human risk and increasing operational efficiencies.

We are on the lookout for an Electrical Engineer to join our team. This role will collaborate with engineering and operations to design and build the next generation UAS aircraft. The ideal candidate is a roll-up-your-sleeves, high energy, collaborative engineer who works well on a team and individually. Reporting to the technical lead, this role is full-time position and based in our Wilmington, Massachusetts headquarters.

Some domestic and international travel may be required.

This is a critical role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, technical environment and is energized by building systems that work.

What you will do
  • Work independently or as a team member to design, build, test and procure electrical hardware for autonomous vehicles.
  • Create detailed schematics and layout of printed circuit boards, ensuring proper signal integrity, power distribution, and thermal management.
  • Work closely with Mechanical Engineers to ensure form, fit, and function between the Electrical Assembly and the mechanical housing(s) and cable runs.
  • Troubleshoot performance and integration issues, develop documentation for the production team to set up and test hardware.
  • Plan and conduct thorough testing and validation of electrical systems and components, including functional testing, environmental testing (e.g., temperature, vibration) and production testing.
  • Help establish and champion design and testing standards.
  • Work with Software engineers to develop embedded firmware and validate the electrical design.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines in the planning, design, and development of new products.
  • Support the manufacturing process and maintain relationships with fab and assembly shops. S
  • Support flight test operations, marketing events, and customer demonstrations.
What you bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 5+ years of post-graduate work experience.
  • Proficiency in PCB design, schematic capture and layout (Altium preferred), component selection and design for manufacturing (DFM) and (DFT) principles.
  • Proficiency with soldering irons, crimpers, power supplies, Oscilloscopes, and multimeters
  • Experience simulating (i.e. LT Spice), prototyping and debugging analog and digital circuits. Experience soldering and reworking prototype electronics.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and customer focus.
  • Strong self-management and organizational skills

  • Experience and interest in UAS, motor control and robotics systems.
  • Familiarity with open architecture hardware (Pix Hawk). Experience with embedded systems design, microprocessor-based design and software development in C/C++/C#. Experience with RF design and FCC testing.
  • FAA Part 107 license.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
