Job DescriptionThe Office of Information Technology (OIT) team manages the network and computers within the Wilmington Public Schools. In addition to this open position, the department is comprised of a Director of Technology and Digital Learning, a Systems Administrator, three Desktop Technicians, and an IT Data Assistant.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and support the network infrastructure and computer systems throughout the district.
- Maintain reliable Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity among the district’s eight schools and central administration building.
- Oversee the operation, repair, and maintenance of Local Area Networks (LANs) in each school and office location.
- Specify, install, configure, and test computer systems, peripherals, and related technologies in accordance with district standards and guidelines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues involving operating systems, application software, network infrastructure, and related technologies.
- Provide direct technical support and consultation to administrators and staff, requiring strong communication and customer service skills.
- Assist with the maintenance, monitoring, and testing of network servers and related equipment to ensure system reliability, security, and performance.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating analytical thinking, problem‑solving abilities, initiative, and sound judgment.
- Support technology use in an educational setting.
- Respond to end user needs in a professional and respectful manner.
- Support end users of software such as MS Office, Google Apps for Education, and other applications.
- Install software applications, PCs, printers, telephones, and other peripherals.
- Install and support wireless technologies.
- Perform hardware and software upgrades as necessary.
- Image hard drives for rapid deployment locally and/or over the network.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve software and hardware problems.
- Work and prioritize tasks via a Help Desk ticket system.
- Communicate with Building Principals and/or end users about the progress of repairs.
- Document and record all repairs and end user requests in the ticket system.
- Provide support for building staff in general troubleshooting, technology maintenance, updating inventories, creating Help Desk tickets, etc.
- Collaborate with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop, laptop and tablet equipment and software.
- Assist in troubleshooting and rectifying network issues and maintain connectivity among computers and servers.
- Troubleshoot and maintain VoIP telephone equipment and cabling.
- Assist in maintaining a district‑wide software and hardware inventory.
- Compile documents on the use of hardware and software.
- Train end users in the use of applications and peripheral equipment.
- Travel to any of the locations within Wilmington Public Schools for repair and/or transport of equipment.
- Perform department project‑based work as needed.
- Assist to ensure a successful computer‑based MCAS test throughout the school district.
- Remain current on industry trends in information technology.
- Complete other duties assigned by the Director of Technology.
Position Type: Full‑time
Salary: $80,000 to $95,000 Per Year
Job Requirements- Degree preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field (or higher).
- Experience preferred: Minimum of three to five years in a computer‑related environment, with a strong emphasis on network infrastructure and database management.
- Advanced knowledge and hands‑on experience with Network Infrastructure (VLANs, Routing, Firewalls, VPNs, and Wireless Controllers).
- Expertise in Database Management and data visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Tableau, or Looker Studio).
- Advanced administration of Student Information Systems (e.g., Power School, Aspen, or Infinite Campus).
