Position Summary

The CNC Machinist III produces machined parts by operating, setting up, and maintaining computer numerical control (CNC) machines, upholding quality and safety standards, recording activities, and maintaining equipment and supplies. May be required to perform some programming. The role requires these tasks to be carried out within Tecomet's principles of continuous improvement, customer‑driven innovation, and a win‑first culture while meeting company financial and performance metrics.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, set up, and program CNC mills, Wire EDMs, and CNC lathes within specified tolerances following work instructions, machine programs, and engineering drawings.
  • Propose new production set‑ups and change offsets/tooling in machines as part of the new setup.
  • Perform difficult CNC Machinist work including progressive machining of a variety of parts and different metals where very close tolerances must be maintained.
  • Read and evaluate blueprints or specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and understand CNC programs and processes.
  • Improve and produce work instructions.
  • Assist engineering with redesigning fixtures to increase quality standards and productivity, change dull tooling, and/or make minor offsets and adjustments as needed for tooling wear.
  • Ensure product quality is achieved by working to operator‑owned quality (OOQ) standards and requirements using a range of measuring equipment and interpreting readings.
  • Propose adjusted speeds and feeds for different machining requirements.
  • Perform routine maintenance as per daily machine checklist and adhere to preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Perform hand finishing.
  • Always follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Document Practice (GDP), including completion of job routers/cards.
  • Ensure safe working practices to minimize risks, and identify and report safety, health, and environmental issues.
  • Achieve set productivity targets and identify ways to improve productivity.
  • Record all activities in a timely manner on the job tracking system.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement activities.
  • Identify and elevate manufacturing issues to the team leader and/or supervisor, participating in the resolution as required.
  • Maintain 5S/housekeeping standards within the work area.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as required or assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 5+ years of CNC machining experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or certificate in Tooling & Machining or completion of a machinist apprenticeship.
  • GCSE/NVQ Maths and English (UK only).

Physical Requirements

Standing, walking, using hands and fingers, reaching with hands and arms, talking and hearing, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
