Assembly Technician

Company: Amazon Robotics

Location: Wilmington, MA (Onsite)

Pay Rate: $41.10/hour

Duration: 6-Month Contract

Shift: Full-Time

About the Role

Amazon Robotics is seeking skilled Assembly Technicians to support rapid prototyping and low-rate production builds of next-generation robotic systems. This role is based within a fast-paced development environment where products move from early prototype through pre-production builds using fast iteration and hands-on validation.

The Assembly Technician will execute build campaigns from start to finish, performing both mechanical and electrical assembly, supporting system integration, preparing units for testing, and collaborating closely with engineering teams. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who enjoy hands-on building, troubleshooting, and working on evolving designs in a robotics-focused environment.

Responsibilities Build Campaign Execution
  • Execute build campaigns for subassemblies and full system integration across multiple robotic products
  • Perform mechanical and electrical assembly of complex electromechanical systems
  • Complete final integration of subassemblies into finished robotic systems
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring schematics, assembly work instructions, and 3D CAD models
  • Support prototype and development builds while maintaining quality and throughput goals
  • Track build progress and communicate shortages, assembly issues, and design concerns to production leadership
Testing & Quality
  • Prepare assemblies and subassemblies for end-of-line (EOL) functional testing
  • Prepare completed robotic systems for validation, performance testing, and safety verification
  • Perform quality inspections including alignment, fit, torque verification, connector seating, and continuity checks
  • Conduct dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, height gauges, and related inspection tools
  • Document build deviations, non-conformances, and quality findings
  • Verify hardware readiness prior to firmware and software loading activities
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Partner closely with mechanical, electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineers throughout the build process
  • Provide design-for-assembly feedback to improve manufacturability and reliability
  • Support production planning activities by identifying material shortages and build risks
  • Assist in the development of assembly work instructions and process documentation
  • Maintain organized workstations and follow 5S principles
  • Support multiple build programs and changing priorities in a development environment
  • Participate in build readiness reviews and lessons-learned activities
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of hands-on mechanical and/or electrical assembly experience
  • Experience supporting prototype builds or low-volume production environments
  • Experience with precision mechanical and electrical assembly
  • Ability to use common assembly tools including torque wrenches, crimpers, soldering irons, hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools
  • Ability to work in an engineering and manufacturing environment with quality and production targets
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate Degree or Technical Certification in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electromechanical Technology, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in robotics, aerospace, automation, automotive, or consumer electronics environments
  • Experience reading engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and 3D CAD models
  • Experience assembling motors, actuators, gearboxes, encoders, brakes, and motion-control components
  • Experience assembling robotic systems or other complex electromechanical products
  • Knowledge of GD&T and basic metrology practices
  • Experience with CMMs, 3D scanners, or related inspection equipment
  • Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) experience
  • Strong collaboration experience with engineering teams during product development
